Car rental tips to saving money

If you travel often, you know how expensive car rentals can be. And while you may already have a strategy in place that allows you to get some great deals on your car rentals, there are still other things that you can do to save even more money. Remember, the more money you can save on your car rental, the more money you will be able to spend during the trip so that you and your family members can enjoy the experience to the fullest.

Read on to learn about some of the ways that you can get even more savings on your next car rental. Implementing these strategies can help you rest assured that you are definitely getting the lowest rate and that the rental company is not taking advantage of you and your wallet.

Supply Your Own GPS on Car Rental

Instead of having to rent a car that provides you with the convenience of a GPS system built into it, you can simply bring along your GPS unit. This will save you quite a bit of money and allow you to purchase a more basic rental package. Just be sure that, if you are going to be travelling out of the country, your GPS will continue to function properly.

Bring Your Own Car Seats

In the same way that you can save money by bringing your own GPS with you, you can also save a bit of money by bringing along your own child car seat. First off, make sure that you can bring the car seat with you on the airline you will be booking.

If you are allowed to, then surely bring it along so that you do not have to pay an extra fee for your rental car. Plus, it will be the car seat that your child is already used to and likes to sit in, so you will not need to worry about him or her getting frustrated or upset if the car seat that the rental company provides is not to his or her liking.

Be Sure of the Fuel Rules and Mileage Restrictions

When it comes to putting fuel in your rental car, the company may have strict rules in place that you should be aware of before you sign on the dotted line. For example, some rental car companies want you to return the vehicle with a full tank of fuel, while many others are now requiring that you purchase a full tank of fuel and then return it empty or face a surcharge if there is fuel still left in the tank.

Depending upon your destination and how much you will be driving, it may very well be impossible for you to return the vehicle on an empty tank. Therefore, to avoid any hidden traps and fees, get everything in writing and make sure you understand all of the rules clearly. You also want to be sure of any restrictions on the mileage that you accrue because you may be charged extra fees if you go over the allowable limit.
