Fairlawns Boutique Hotel & Spa hosts Art Investments Gallery
The Art Investments Gallery team is thrilled to announce that Fairlawns Boutique Hotel & Spa in Morningside Manor is exhibiting art from the gallery in the executive dining room at the hotel, now known as The Gallery.
Says the gallery’s Project Director Thobile Disemelo: “After seeing some of our art exhibited in the Fairlawns gardens during the recent annual Home Channel Joburg Child Welfare Décor Morning managed by Edith Venter, Michael Kewley, Managing Director of Fairlawns, thought it might be a good idea for us to utilise the private executive dining room at the hotel as a gallery to enhance the stunning venue overlooking the beautiful hotel gardens.
“It is most exciting for us at the gallery to form these strategic alliances with establishments such as Fairlawns in support of great local artists, by providing us with alternative spaces for the public to have access to great works of art. This also creates a forum for investors of fine art wishing to purchase our artists’ work and thereby creating an investment potential for up-and-coming talented artists.
“Another highlight for the gallery has been AWCA (African Women Chartered Accountants) affording Art Investments Gallery the opportunity to supply them with a portrait by one of our artists, Philani Luthuli, which was presented to the former State President Mr Thabo Mbeki at the annual AWCA Woman of Substance Awards gala evening. The Woman of Substance Awards is an event that honours and recognises South Africa’s most exceptional women achievers, and this year Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka was the deserving recipient of the award. The portrait now hangs proudly at the Thabo Mbeki Foundation. What a wonderful coup for our gallery!
“Many of our clients prefer to commission particular paintings or portraits that will be of long-term value to their businesses or even families. Some even request our artists create paintings of their offices, homes, pets and families – a service we gladly provide.”
“Another great coup was for Art investments Gallery to be the first and only gallery to participate at the first annual Soweto Art Festival which took place at the Soweto Theatre. It was the first time ever that an art festival was hosted in the township. This was especially important as most of our country’s greatest artists come from and live in the townships, yet art is not accessible there. The Soweto Art Festival seeks to bring art to the majority of the people. The festival was extended for a further 3 days by popular demand, which bodes well for the future of art appreciation in Soweto,” says Thobile.
“It is important for art to be introduced to our young people as well as the uninitiated as there is potential for greatness in the arts within local communities,” she concludes.
Art Investments Gallery was launched in 2012 by the directors of Advanced Capital, who realised and fulfilled the need for corporates to invest in and champion the cause of talented and committed young artists by offering them resources, studio space, sales and marketing support and a platform to create and promote their art to the local and international markets.
