FEDHASA Cape allocates R100,000 for bursaries

Entries for FEDHASA Cape’s 2017 Youth Bursary are now open the association has announced.

The hospitality association is calling on all students and trainees from its Cape member institutions, studying towards a hospitality qualification and who have successfully completed their second year to apply for funding to the value of R100 000.

Alan Lester, acting vice chairman of FEDHASA Cape says bursaries will be awarded to worthy recipients and is FEDHASA Cape’s contribution to ensuring “deserving” students are afforded the opportunity to have their studies funded.

“This bursary will give students the chance to secure their third and final year of studies and be groomed into up and coming leaders in the hospitality industry,” he says.

To apply, candidates are requested to adhere to the stringent requirements as set out by FEDHASA Cape, which includes supplying a full academic record, a letter of recommendation from a lecturer, as well as comprehensive motivation highlighting financial obstacles that could hinder study payments.

According to Lester, the bursary covers tuition fees, and the training institution is also requested to provide FEDHASA Cape with the student’s academic progress at least twice a year. Further to this, if the candidate fails to complete his/her studies, FEDHASA Cape is within its right to request that the candidate repays the bursary in full, and another recipient will be selected from the association’s shortlist.

“There are many worthy students out there who simply cannot afford to see their studies through. We want to change that one by one,” Lester says.
