Johannesburg Development Agency rewards Hotel Lamunu

Hotel Lamunu has been named the winner in the “Relaxing & Playing” category in the 2012 Joburg Halala Awards. Organised by the City of Joburg’s Johannesburg Development Agency, the annual Halala Awards pay tribute to companies and individuals whose projects and concepts contribute to the revitalisation of Joburg’s inner city.

“We are passionate about the rejuvenation of this precinct and are certainly pleased to be recognised as trendsetters creating a unique and vibrant lifestyle proposition. Hotel Lamunu offers a unique and superior product and we want to help entice people back to this historic part of the city,” says Margeaux Swartz, South Point Hospitality’s marketing manager.

The hotel was selected the best among contenders; POPArt performance centre, Sishen Iron Ore Truck, Renting Wisely, The Bioscope and the Past Experiences Tourism Company. Randlords, South Point Hospitality and Lamunu’s Johnny Clegg Conference Centre were also finalists in this category.

The “Relaxing & Playing” category awards projects that have made novel use of their physical environment. From hotels and short-term accommodation to projects that have defined Joburg’s style of ‘wining and dining’ in a residential or office area considered to have been ‘dead’ space.

Hotel Lamunu’s The Grove was also a finalist in this year’s “Working & Buying” category.
