Marriott International redeploys Volker Heiden

Marriott International has announced the appointment of Volker Heiden as Vice President of Protea Hotels by Marriott, Marriott International, Middle East & Africa.

As Vice President, Volker Heiden will head up the strategic leadership of all the operational functions of the Protea Hotels by Marriott brand throughout Africa, covering eight countries on the continent.

Heiden will support Mark Satterfield, Chief Operating Officer Africa & Middle East & Africa Operations Services, who has headed up operations for Protea Hotels by Marriott since 2014 when Marriott International acquired Protea Hotels.  Satterfield will continue to lead all operational activities for Marriott International across the Middle East & Africa.

A 20-year veteran of Marriott International, Heiden relocates to the Marriott International Cape Town office, from his role as Regional Vice President Finance for the Caribbean and Latin America for Marriott.  He began his career with Hyatt International before joining Marriott International in1997. Heiden gained experience in a number of different regions of the world, as well as across numerous hospitality brands. His focus has been on improving business processes with a view to maximising revenue and driving incremental value for Marriott’s owners and hotels.

“It is an exciting move for me to take over the operations of such a significant hospitality brand on the Africa continent with strong development growth plans that include 65 new hotels, an indication of the acceleration of interest in the many destinations represented for both business and leisure travel purposes,” he comments. “Although I have worked in many different regions of the world, coming to Africa will be a new experience and one that I am sure I will enjoy and grow from.”
