Meet Assistant Lodge Manager: Agness Maseko (Royal Chundu Zambezi River Lodge)

This is the seventh edition of my weekly profile interviews with hotel personnel, in an effort to celebrate their work and give them a platform to shine. Agness Maseko chats to us about working in the hospitality industry…

What is your name and which hotel do you work for?

My name is Agness Maseko and I work for Royal Chundu Zambezi River Lodge.

How did you get into your current position?

I got into this position through advertising myself.

What were you doing before your current position?

I was working at a lodge in South Africa as Assistant Lodge Manager.

What do you like about your job?

I love people and meeting people from around the globe makes me learn something new everyday.

What challenges are part of your job?

Language barriers – sometimes you meet guests that can hardly speak the languages you understand.

What is your long term goal with your career?

My long term goal would be to manage a Lodge on my own one day.

What milestones have you achieved since being part of the hotel front office team?

I have grown from being an administrative officer/receptionist/PA to being an Assistant Lodge Manager and currently being the supervisor of the most beautiful Island Lodge at Royal Chundu.

How do you handle rude guests?

Do not be rude back at them, instead smile at them and help them as much as you can, guests may be rude for a reason, they may have had a bad guest experience, make the best out of every situation and be as helpful as possible.  Read the guests and suggest what would wow them.

What is your educational background?  

I am a PA by profession.
