Metro FM Music Awards amplifies Sho’Left – TKZN

All roads lead to KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), as thousands of music lovers and top musicians head to Durban for the 15th Metro FM Music Awards (MMA15) taking place at Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre (Durban ICC), on 27 February 2016.

The 2016 awards will take place in KZN for the 4th consecutive year as a partnership between Metro FM, Province of KwaZulu-Natal and EThekwini Municipality. The hosting of this event by the Province represented by the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs is aimed at embracing  the Zulu Kingdom as the must visit domestic tourism destination and lifestyle events capital of South Africa. The partnership will provide KZN with an opportunity to showcase the tourism landscape to millions of Metro FM listeners and the broad SABC family. “As the government of KwaZulu-Natal we relentlessly seize every opportunity to host mega events such as the Metro FM Music Awards and many more in order to make tourism a viable sector to boost the local economy “said MEC Michael Mabuyakhulu.

Chief Executive Officer of Tourism KZN, Mr Ndabo Khoza said: “In line with the national agenda to encourage domestic tourism amongst South Africans, as KZN we strongly believe that the partnership with this leading commercial radio station which has more than 6 million listeners will be an opportunity for music fans to explore the province as the destination of choice for their next holiday. Events of this magnitude have proven to be the key drivers in growing the provincial economy and sustaining many jobs in the tourism sector. We are expecting high hotel occupancies and our restaurants, clubs and places of interest will enjoy extra traffic from the revelers who will converge in KZN this weekend”.

“Domestic travelers are independent, they book their holidays directly and most often their decisions are based on word of mouth, the internet and recommendations from social influencers such as radio personalities and through these activations, KZN will be engaging directly with potential travelers on where to go and what to do on their next holiday to the Zulu Kingdom.

We are expecting an influx of domestic travelers, particularly from our key source markets such as Gauteng and other inland provinces. Hotels along the beachfront and Umhlanga are already fully booked for the weekend and others are enjoying a higher occupancy. Car hire companies have seen an increase in demand for their services. The activities for this weekend will incorporate the promotion of township tourism with events planned for townships around Durban “concluded Mr. Khoza

KZN will be a hive of activity throughout the weekend with a number of side events for the throngs of visitors to give them the exceptional experiences that the province is renowned for.

These will include,

  • Music meets Fashion at Waterfront Hotel, 26 February 2016
