How will mobile devices change the way we fly?
Mobile devices are changing the way we socialize, plan, and view multi-media. However, did you know that mobile devices are also changing the way that we fly? With so much technology being built into smart phones, flying and traveling is becoming easier and more efficient than ever before. With that being said, let’s take a look at a few ways how mobile devices are changing the way we fly.
Higher Percentage of Mobile Bookings on Flights
In today’s day and age, more and more people are using their mobile devices to book flights. And although the official number is still only around 2%, it is expected to increase to 50% by the year 2017. That is a massive jump and it just goes to show how prevalent mobile technology will become in the flight community. While mobile bookings may not mean that you’re saving money, it does mean that you’re saving time- and for some people, this can mean a lot.
Self-Service Airports Becoming the “Norm”
In the future, it wouldn’t be too far out to say that airports are becoming to become self-service facilities that are going to be directed by mobile devices to some extent. In fact, there are already apps being developed that will provide people with the ability to partake in “Mobile Check-Ins” once they arrive at the airport. All in all, these should mean far fewer lines due to this efficient technology. Also take note that mobile devices may also end up allowing us to check-in our bags, transfer to connecting flights, and even board planes.
In-Flight Fliers Becoming More Prominent
Since the majority of people are going to use their mobile device at some point during flights, certain platforms are already being developed to deliver information to these individuals. Essentially, these fliers would contain information about the flight as well as provide other important status updates. It is important to realize that this technology is coming a lot quicker than most people think and is going to provide a lot of useful and innovative functions never seen before.
It is safe to say that mobile technology is going to drastically change the way we approach flying as well as airports. With faster check-ins and the ability to book a flight from anywhere, a future where people are flying more efficiently is definitely in range and will come a lot quicker than most people think.
