Notification of strike on N1N4

It is with regret that Bakwena Platinum Corridor Concessionaire (Pty) Ltd advises stakeholders and road users of a strike by the South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (SATAWU) that will be taking place on the N1N4 route.

The safety of motorists and stakeholders is of paramount importance to Bakwena and its operator, Pt Operational Services (PT Ops). Picketing rules have been and are being negotiated and Bakwena would like to reassure all parties that every effort is being made to ensure the safety of all.

Protocols, procedures and emergency planning are in place and will be implemented to ensure as little disruption as possible occurs on the roads during this period. We vehemently condemn any form of intimidation of non-striking employees, road users and members of the community. To this end, we have engaged the South African Police Services and relevant emergency authorities to ensure that the N1N4 roads are safe and peaceful during the industrial action.

Although Bakwena foresees undisrupted operation of the N1N4 toll plazas and that other logistical functions will not be compromised and that traffic will not be disrupted, contingency plans are in place to manage the occurrence of potential interferences. Road users can also make use of alternative roads such as the R101 and R104.

Bakwena and Pt Ops apologise in advance should any disruptions or inconvenience occur. Should road users require any further assistance, kindly contact Bakwena on (011) 519 0400.
