One&Only Cape Town makes new appointments
Robin Thomas steps up as One&Only Cape Town’s Resort Manager while Roberto de Carvalho is announced as the resort’s Executive Chef. In the Sales and Marketing department Jené Barnes has been appointed International Sales Manager for One&Only Cape Town and Nicki Linde joins the resort as its new Strategy and Planning Manager.

The resort management is equally focused on handpicking the very best professionals in all arenas of the hotel. Four recent appointments are certainly testament to this.
With a CV that features many of Cape Town’s leading hotels and restaurants (including the Mount Nelson Hotel and The Roundhouse Restaurant), Robin Thomas is an excellent choice for the position of Resort Manager at One&Only Cape Town.
Robin takes up the position with immediate effect, having served as Executive Assistant Manager (Food & Beverage) at the resort for the past ten months. Says One&Only Cape Town Managing Director Clive Bennett, “Robin has proven to possess outstanding skill and expertise in the hospitality arena and in the time he has been with us has proven to have an excellent understanding of the One&Only brand standards”. Robin explains that his thirst for providing an incomparable guest experience is what drives him on a daily basis. With his extensive knowledge of the intricate workings of an urban resort destination and keen enthusiasm, Robin’s promotion is well deserved indeed.
The second significant recent appointment at One&Only Cape Town is that of Roberto de Carvalho – as Executive Chef. Well known in the city as a talented and passionate chef, with a penchant for making magic with local and seasonal ingredients. Roberto has been in the industry for some 18 years and is a member of the South African Culinary Team. He returns to the hotel industry after an exciting period spent running his own acclaimed restaurant in the Cape Town CBD “having my own eatery was something I have always wanted to do but working in the hotel world is in my blood and I couldn’t resist the opportunity to head up a passionate brigade at the best hotel in the city”. With a slant towards uncomplicated, ‘clean cuisine’ where the quality of the produce and ingredients take centre stage, Roberto has settled into his new role quickly and easily. The resort is thrilled to have enticed him into its kitchens and looks forward to his inspired leadership and approach to dining.
With One&Only Cape Town’s increased foothold in the five-star hospitality arena, it was necessary for the marketing and sales department to expand.
Jené Barnes has joined the One&Only Cape Town Sales and Marketing team as International Sales Manager with a key focus on the source markets of the United Kingdom and Europe.
With an extensive background in luxury travel and five-star hotel marketing and sales in the global arena, Jené brings her invaluable experience to the One&Only Cape Town team. Her excellent insider knowledge of the industry from both a tour operator and sales perspective will no doubt stand her in good stead in her new role “I am excited to be taking on this new challenge where I can continue to combine my love for travel and hospitality and help expose the market to the outstanding offerings at One&Only Cape Town”, she says.
Recent appointment Nicki Linde is the new Strategy and Planning Manager for the resort. Having worked at numerous world-class hotel properties, Nicki brings to the team an extensive knowledge in Marketing and PR to support and facilitate the global sales strategies. “I am especially excited to be working for a brand like One&Only that is known for its innovation and global reach and I am looking forward to the challenge”, she says.
