Tiffindell Ski Resort opens for business after a facelift

Tiffindell Ski Resort in the Eastern Cape near Barkly East has been hard at work for the last 6 months restoring Tiffindell, one of South Africa’s national treasures, to full operation. Tiffindell is open for bookings!

Tiffindell Resort was established in 1993, and grew from small beginnings toa fully equipped winter snow resort with state of the art snowmaking and grooming equipment, ski lifts, restaurant, ski shop, ski school, conference facility and accommodation for over 150 guests. The multi-million rand family resort lies on 30,000m² of immaculately groomed ski area and offers a full three months of skiing each year by way of natural and man-made snow!

Non aspiring skiers may come and enjoy a unique South African snow experience, making snowmen, throwing snow balls or tobogganing down “Bumboard Alley” making it the perfect family holiday for young and old.

Developments for the 2013 winter snow season include the enlargement of one of the Tiffindell dams, to four times its original size increasing the snowmaking capacity. The road has been graded between the hamlet of Rhodes and Tiffindell allowing vehicles to reach the resort hassle-free in clear weather conditions.  All facilities of the newly built Mountain Suites, the self catering Luxury Chalets, Private and Family Chalets have been tested and all accommodation is ready for the season ahead.

The resort management teams are busy with the ski lift line on the main slopes and snowmaking equipment has been serviced and is ready to produce snow when the weather permits. The beginner slope is a 100 x 50m slope and there are two main slopes, one is a blue run with a red run next to it, which have 2 long “Poma” lifts that will take you up the mountain. Tiffindell offers slope lengths of around 1.3km in total and with natural snow falls you could ski from the highest peak in the Cape province. New ski equipment is on the way and the Ski Hire department is ready for its operational duties.

Our highly experienced local and international instructors will teach you to ski or snowboard quickly and safely whether you’re on snow for the first time, or if you just want a few technique pointers; if you’re aged anywhere between 6 and 60, Tiffindell’s Snowsports training caters for you. Junior skiers will be encouraged to join our junior development.  Tiffindell has been the proud host of most South African National Ski & Snowboard Championship events since 1993 in cooperation with Snow Sports South Africa, the National Ski Federation. Look out for the Tiffindell Junior Ski Competition in July 2013 or join the NEW Tiffindell Ski & Snowboard Club.

Tiffindell is employing permanent staff and helping uplift the local communities with training and skills development. Many original staff members have returned. CV’s for seasonal staff are now being requested for the upcoming season. Local suppliers are being used where ever possible and the Eastern Cape Highlands communities and farmers have overwhelmingly rallied behind the project even offering free help and services in some cases.

Tiffindell Ski Resort’s 2013 winter season is from June until early September 2013.   The Tiffindell Reservations team would love to custom build your family holiday or group package this season.
