Make the most of this summer by taking your family on holiday they’ll never forget, camping in the beautiful British countryside. Camping is the perfect type of holiday for you and your family, no need to worry about airports or foreign food, just the great outdoors and lots of fun. There are so many different types of camp site dotted around the UK so to help you decide on where to go we’ve put together our top tips on how to choose the best one for your family.
Think….what do you want?
Firstly think about what sort of camping holiday you want, a quiet escape away from the hustle and bustle, or an action packed busy vacation with lots to see and do? There are different types of campsite to suit every holiday style so decide which type you are looking for first.
A quiet and relaxing camping retreat can do the whole family wonders, and if that’s the kind of camping holiday you want look for camp sites that are away from major towns and are set in rural locations. Make sure you do your homework before you leave home and research rural areas, think about whether you want something relatively close to home or are happy to travel further afield. Once you have found a location then look into the different campsites in that area, remember to look into their facilities. Some will have all the modern facilities you could want whereas as some may simply be a field that a farmer is looking to rent out to happy campers.

Restless children might need a camping trip that has activities within it, so look at camp sites that are near local attractions or offer different activities. Many campsites will offer activities and these types of sites will tend to attract more families, which can be great for your children to make friends and have play mates. Look at the local area in terms of activities, swimming is often a holiday staple for many and you might want some historical landmarks and other educational visits on your doorstop.
Also consider factors such as traffic and noise, the perfect campsite might not be best beside a busy motorway area. But of course you probably don’t want to be so far away from local amenities that you can’t easily stock up on food or other necessities, so essentially research is key.
The most important thing to remember when looking at what sort for campsite to choose for you and your family is be practical. Think about logistics, and also consider how long you are going away for, a week in the wilderness may be too long, but as could a week of action packed fun.
When you find the right campsite also remember to pick the right spot to pitch your tent. Stay clear form the bins and toilets if there are any, and steer clear from any through fairs where noisy campers may waken you up or disturb dinner time.
