Tourvest Destination Management reshuffles senior team

Recent internal changes, including former Chief Operating Officer for Tourvest Destination Management Business and Sports Event division (B.A.S.E.) Bryan Coetzee’s move to Cape Town as Regional Director for Coastal TDM (B.A.S.E)  covering both Cape Town and Durban offices, have contributed towards management looking within the organisation for its re-structure.

As a result, Sabine Blehle, current Sales and Marketing Director of Welcome Tourism Services (WTS) will be moving to Tourvest Destination Management Business & Sports Events (B.A.S.E.) division as Chief Operating Officer from 01 September 2012.

Blehle, who has a post graduate degree in Business Administration from the Gordon Institute of Business Science, is well placed to take the Tourvest Destination Management B.A.S.E. division to the next level following a successful career at Welcome Tourism Services.  After completing her apprenticeship in tourism and gaining seven year’s work experience in the industry in Germany, Blehle moved to South Africa and joined Welcome Tourism Services in 1998. She started as a consultant in the groups department, handled special projects, and thereafter moved into sales, serving as Welcome Tourism Services’ Sales and Marketing Director since 2008.

Blehle commented: “Business and Sports Toursim has been identified by Tourvest Destination Management as one of the rapid growth segments in the tourism sector, especially since it is one of the fastest growing areas in the global industry. I’m very excited to take on this new challenge, not only to continue to grow the business tourism sector for Tourvest Destination Management, but to support the contribution for economic growth within South Africa.  The business tourism industry has become more competitive and I’m confident that through strategic coordination of procurement, synergies, enhancement of internal processes and access to global resources, Tourvest Destination Management B.A.S.E. will continue to raise the value it adds to not only its customers but all stakeholders involved”.

Martin Wiest, Tourvest Destination Management CEO, said of Blehle’s move to Tourvest Destination Management B.A.S.E., “Blehle has exactly the right management skills required to ensure the success of the Tourvest Destination Management B.A.S.E. division, as she had done with Welcome Tourism Services in the inbound sector. The redeployment of Sabine is in line with our company philosophy of taking existing talent and skills within the business and creating real career paths to the benefit of the business and the individual.”

Peter Dros, former Sales and Marketing Director at Sanctuary Retreats – Abercrombie and Kent’s lodge and camp portfolio – steps into Blehle’s shoes as Welcome Tourism Services’ new Sales and Marketing Director.  He joins the Welcome Tourvest Services with a wealth of experience and industry knowledge, having started his career in tourism at MalaMala Game Reserve in 1995.

“In a constantly changing industry, coming from the product side will allow me to look at the business with fresh eyes, offer new ideas and an innovative approach to sales and marketing where Welcome Tourism Services requires it.  The existing relationships and experience I have with the local and international trade, suppliers and clients will certainly add value to this market leader in the tourism industry in South Africa,” he said.

Martin Botha, Tourvest Destination Management Inbound COO, says of Dros’ joining Welcome Tourism Services, “Peter will be entrusted with building on the strong foundation left by Sabine Blehle, continuing to grow market share in Welcome’s traditional European and Australian markets and broadening the Welcome footprint in North and South America. Peter brings significant experience to the position and we are confident that with his excellent track record as a marketer he will prove to be a formidable asset to our business.”
