TravelGround.com scoops an e-commerce award

Young startup TravelGround.com won the coveted “Best Design, Standards and Ease of Use” award at the 7th annual SA e-Commerce Awards on Thursday. Other winners included established national brands like Bid or Buy, Property24 and Groupon.

Marcel Van de Ghinste, director at TravelGround, said “6 months ago we updated our company slogan to ‘With us its easier.'” Marcel added that this wasn’t just a slogan change, “It was an announcement of our aim to make TravelGround the easiest way to find and book accommodation across South Africa. This award is recognition that we’re already excelling in this aim.” The SA e-Commerce Awards were decided by a combination of 114,000 unique votes as well as expert judging by web-design agency Druff Interactive.

TravelGround was founded by 4 young Capetonians and opened for bookings a little over 3 years ago. Without accepting any external funding the TravelGround website now serves over 1,000,000 pages per month.

TravelGround makes it easy to book online at over 3,500 hotels, guest houses and self-catered establishments across South Africa via credit card or EFT. TravelGround charges hotels for bookings introduced though the website, and exclusive deals mean that guests often pay less than they would when booking with hotels directly.

With thousands of guests booking through TravelGround every month its clear we’ll be hearing more from the website in 2013.
